The Penang Tourist Guide Association (PTGA) had just recently launched their first ever website: ptga.my. The website acts as a good platform to recruit new members and to keep members up-to-date with
periodical online newsletters packed with informative articles and updates on guiding-related issues, major events, new tourism sites and current tourism issues.
Penang Tourist Guide Association has been around for more than 46 years and is the first tourist guide association to be formed in Malaysia. Established in September 1966, PTGA was formed to represent, promote and protect the common interests of tourist guides in Penang who join as a member. Currently, PTGA has an active membership of 533 members and their guides are categorized as City Guides who carries a blue badge and Localized Nature Guides who carries a green badge. These guides offer guiding in 10 different languages and are required to constantly participate in tourism educational activities and the Continuing Tourism Related Education to update and increase their knowledge.
Their office also serves as a Tourist Information Centre and is situated within the heritage zone of George Town on Cannon Street. For more information, call PTGA at 04-261 4461 or email 1966@ptga.my.
