In conjunction with the Penang State Chap Goh Meh Open House, for the first time ever, there will be a second stage dedicated to showcasing and promoting Penang Peranakan Culture by the State Chinese (Penang) Associaton.
Visitors will be entertained from 7.30 pm to 10.00pm with an array of exciting performances including traditional joget, pantun, dondang sayang, martial arts, traditional games and a rendition of Malay and Hokkien songs. There will be performances by Sayang-sayang Dancers, Johnny & The Nyonya Bells, SJKC Convert Datuk Keramat, Phor Thay Hight School and many more.
The highlight of the night is a special musical theater performance from “Main Wayang Company” from Singapore. “Main Wayang Company” has performed all over the world including Germany, Australia and around Asia.
At 8.30 pm there will be a special “Ratu Kebaya contest” open to women above the age of 12, regardless of race and background. The champion with the most beautiful kebaya will receive RM1,000 and a tiara.
Members of the public are encouraged to come in their traditional kebayas to support the Penang Peranakan Culture.
